Infrastructure Growth and Development in Gurgaon
National Highway (NH) 48 is one such road that widened people’s vision and changed their ability to travel to and from Delhi efficiently and that’s how the city of Gurugram was created. The construction of basic infrastructure such as roads, highways, railways, and subways are significant lifebloods of development. What constitutes modern Gurugram today is a region surrounded by both the northern and southern peripheral cross roads stretching from sector 1 to the 57 most recurrently in a crescent arc of about 32 KM.
Areas falling outside the NPR/SPR boundary zone, specifically sectors 58 to 115, are however, not developed at all when the OSD sectors are developed in Pareksha-Nina. There being no roads linking these areas makes day to day commutes inconvenient for many people moving to and from the capital city and the various districts within the city. The northern peripheral roads are comparatively also known as the Dwarka Expressways since they are shorter in distance from the international airport hub located in Delhi. For all the sectors confined to the range of the Dwarka Expressway corridor, the expressway has yet remained the 18KM scope of these sectors.
Recent Developments and Improvements in the Connectivity
In the year 2016, this 18-KM stretch was achieved by Haryana Government, and this was given over to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) which was then extended to Shiv Murti (Mahipalpur) from the Gurugram border thus making the length 29 KM. But, the administrative reality is that those sectors dotting the expressway are deficient in the road networks which facilitate the movement of people to and from these sectors to Delhi and old Gurgaon and vice versa because many of the intra linking roads are either in the drawing board, not constructed or are non functional. To add to that, presently, there is not any kind of metro service available.
Nonetheless, the Haryana government and NHAI have in recent times accelerated the pace of construction of all the connecting roads and the dwelling of the Dwarka expressway. After a short while, travelling will become easy for people living in these sectors, as the remaining sector roads are being built to junction with the expressway. Also, underpasses and flyovers are being constructed to be in sync with the expressway and NH 48.
Upgrading the Infrastructure and the Standard of Living
Many roads constructed decades back by the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran(HSVP) have since become non-motorable. However, as the NHAI prepares for the launch of the Dwarka Expressway, it is safe to say that the sector roadnetwork will be made motorable and commuting will now be easy and stress free for the residents. This is encouraging, because the regional controlling authority, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has accelerated the course of action to either repair damaged roads or build/renovate them.
Some money has been set aside for expenditure, guidelines have been given so that one can see the progress at different spots. It is believed that very shortly, within the next few months, NHAI will allow traffic to use the Dwarka Expressway, which will enhance the scope of future expansion in Gurugram, just like NH 48 enabled fifteen years ago.
